Why Yes, There Are Great Players Outside Of The Big 6 Leagues

You already know about all of the big stars in the major conferences who you need to keep an eye on over the next five months.  These are the guys certain members of the national media put on teams named after overly expensive luxury cars, who go on to hog most of the available college hoops highlights on a nightly basis.

To counter this, the boys at Searching for Billy Edelin have come up with a list of 10 players from outside of the BCS conferences to keep an eye on during this season.  You may have a hazy recollection of some of these names from last season's NCAA's.  For example, Morehead State's Kenneth Faried and Siena's Edwin Ubiles gave Louisville fits.  But are you aware of Luke Babbitt, the McDonald's All-American who decided to stay close to home and play for Nevada?   How about Illinois State's Osiris Eldridge? He won the Most Outstanding Player award at last year's Missouri Valley Tourney on a losing team.

As these are your potential March spoilers, it's not a bad piece to read if you want to get a head start on the competition in your office pool.

Bernard Pierce of Temple?

Temple Owls’ freshman runningback Bernard Pierce.

He’s 700 yards shy of breaking Adrian Peterson’s freshman season rushing record. 3rd best runningback in the country statistically, as well as the top freshman overall.

Several 200+ yard games this year, only one outing with under 100 yards where he was taken out due to an injury.

Go Owls!
