Ochocinco Aiming to Exhaust His Fine Budget in Record Time

It wasn't that startling of a revelation when weeks ago it was reported that Chad Ochocinco puts money aside at the beginning of each season because he knows he's going to be hit with fines. Perhaps a little surprising, as it's a demonstration of foresight from a guy who is a whirling, Twittering dervish of impulse decisions.

Twice he's been tagged with fines so far this year, both times for violating chin strap violations. The first cost him $5,000. The second $10,000. Now the referee bribe gag he pulled during Sunday's game against the Ravens has doubled the fine pot once again, as the league has levied a $20,000 fine on the receiver, both for the demonstration, but also for referring to it as a "bribe" during post-game comments.

Is the $20,000 mark a sign of the severity of the violation, or will the league continue doubling Ocho's fee each time he slips up? That not likely the case, which is a shame, but I think I speak for all of us when I say I'd like to see how high he could go. I don't think a couple hundred grand is out of the question.

Not the Ocho would sweat the money. Millions in annual salary aside, Ocho has money coming in from a highly successful iPhone app. Though there's little doubt he'll find a way to get fined because of new media.

How about we fine the NFL $20000 for being so insanely anal?

The No Fun League strikes again!!

I’m no Chad fan at all, and usually find him uninteresting. That being said, when I saw this last Sunday, I nearly fell out of my recliner laughing. It was funny, spontaneous, and actually started to change my opinion of the guy. There was obviously no ill intent, it was done for a laugh, and it worked. It also showed me he enjoys what he does for a living.
Does it deserve a fine? Maybe a buck.
Fining him for a sense of humoe is ridiculous, and I agree with you, WisMolson.

I totally disagree with the previous posts.  Bribing referees is no joking matter and this was one of the lamest of Chad’s antics ever.  If this happens again you can expect an even bigger fine.

chad likes to ahve fun…the NFL…not so much.

by lordhlatts on Nov 13, 2009 1:43 PM EST reply actions

chad is overated so he pulls these stunts to get coverage.  most of them are really not that funny.  this one was decent.
the mustard gag that got shut down was not even close to funny.
nor was the deoderant thing.  ocho doto is much more creative than ocho cinco….

the real hysterics will start about 3 years after he retires and we read on tSN that he is broke. then ill be laughing my a$$ off.

Well said Ocho Doto!!!!

This gag was not funny, nor for that matter are any of his antics.
I don’t mean "not funny" in the sense of being inappropriate nor disrespectful.  I mean plain and simple –  not funny.
His jokes are flat and he puts no effort in them to lift them up to at least a chuckle.  He’s like the drunk at a party who keeps on adding one stupid stunt to another until he gets somebody to laugh.  Well, there are a few ‘somebodies’ out there apparently.
Hard to believe so many of you find all this as being ‘fun’.

well count ocho scurdso as one who finds it funny, but i think it is more than just that. the officiating has been blatantly biased towards manning, brady, and the steelers this season again, and chad is pointing at it here.

you crazy ocho scurdso.  ocho cinco could care less about officiating.
this was nothing more than yet another attempt at getting face time.
sadly, it worked again.

Pollister, please, list off the NFL players who are funny. Or try to be.

I love Ochocinco and I love that grown men -announcers- have to actually say "Ochocinco" on TV and take themselves seriously now that he legitimately changed his name.
This guy has more haters than most, and he doesn’t care. Good guy.

Ocho Me’o is an idiot!  Just shut the hell up and have fun making millions playing football.  Why do you always have to draw attention to yourself!  Now the Presidential twitt.  Okay the McDonald’s comment was funny!!  But it is still showing youth how to disrespect authority!

by Tbru191022 on Nov 13, 2009 4:29 PM EST reply actions

If he doesn’t "HAVE FUN" playing football he should get out of the game that gives him ability to pay such fines. As for announcers having to say his name, they could always just call him "Oh No the Idio".

Ocho’s an idiot but you have to love him

by astrotown on Nov 13, 2009 4:49 PM EST reply actions

He wouldn’t have gotten that big of a fine if he had bribed a real official in real life!  The NFL is turning into the Spanish Inquisition.

Considering Chad Ochocinco has avoided legal troubles including drug abuse, assaults and all other kinds of mayhem that many pro athletes come across…this is a welcome ray of sunshine.  Being in Dallas, I rarely ever see him play, but the NFL needs guys like him.  There is a place for your Peyton Mannings, Tom Brady’s and Adrian Petersons…you need your second level of guys that provide good entertainment along with good play.  This is where he comes in…the NBA had it’s Jordan’s, Bird’s and Magic Johnson’s but a little Charles Barkley unpredictability always added something to the game.

yeah and when mannign, a stand-up class guy, wanted to honor johnny unitas and where hightops, does the nfl go great, stand-up thing, manning respects the people that came before, no they say, u can’t wear hightops it would be a uniform vioaltion, the reason why the people hate the nfl is they take themselves way to seriously, these guys are payed to entertain, and with the celeck thing, captain morgan was trying to something for the gridiron greats charity, and what does the nfl do they put the kibosh on that, why, it was for charity, to help older players out, becuase the nfl certainly hasn’t done that and in fact really been negilent toward the retired players, please goodell we beg of u let these guys have a little bit of fun

Let’s see…punch an assistant coach and break his jaw?  Well, you know, ahem, it’s, you know, we, um, yeah.

Carry a $1 bribe as an obvious joke?  WE WON’T TOLERATE THAT!!  $20,000 FINE!!!  HOW DARE HE????  THIS IS THE NFL!
