This report just came through the wire:
Jeff Goodman of WEEI.com and FoxSports.com has learned that three Boston College Men's Basketball Players have been suspended for tonight's season opener at home against Dartmouth. Junior guard/forward Rakim Sanders, junior forward Corey Raji and junior forward Cortney Dunn are all out for tonight's game. The cause of the suspension is not yet known. It is also not yet known whether the suspensions will last beyond tonight's contest. The suspensions leave BC with seven scholarship players.
As a proud alumnus of Boston College I like to think to think that I've got some inside sources on this one. Like last year, when I was one of the first to find out that Tyrese Rice had been suspended after stealing 14 pairs of his team issue Reeboks. ("But coach! I gots to have a fresh pair for every conference game!") Sadly, so far my sources got nothing on this one, except this:
"Could be weed. Or maybe [an] unsanctioned summer league game. It wouldn't feel right if BC started the year without a suspension."
So, there you have it: could be weed. Or something else. But probably weed. I'm guessing weed. In any case, BC will be without its two best players, Raji and Sanders, and a key big man (Dunn) for at least their home opener tonight. Somehow, I think they'll survive Dartmouth.
