Troy Polamalu will miss the Steelers' Week 15 game against the Packers with a knee injury suffered a month ago.
Unleasing hell just got a whole lot tougher for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jim Wexell of SteelCityInsider.com reports that head coach Mike Tomlin has ruled out All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu for the team’s Week 15 game against the Packers. Polamalu has been out since November 17th, after straining his PCL against the Bengals.
The Steelers have dropped five straight games to fall to the fringe of playoff contention at 6-7. They would have to win out, and hope for a lot of help if they are to have any hope of continuing their title defense. As SBN’s Behind the Steel Curtain notes, they have struggled all season long without Polamalu in the lineup, forcing fewer turnovers and giving up more yards in his absence.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who is not a human being at all, but is instead a news-breaking machine comprised of gears, axles, conveyor belts, and punch cards, reports that Troy Polamalu is expected to be out for a month.
The good news for Steelers fans, of course, is that Polamalu should hopefully be back for the playoffs. A straw-stuffed scarecrow is expected to bear the load in the Pittsburgh secondary until then. While not nearly as fast as Polamalu, it does scare birds away.
After sitting out practice on Thursday, the Steelers have ruled out All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu for the team’s Week 11 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Polamalu, for his part, was none too pleased about sitting out Sunday’s game, asking reporters “Who says there’s even a real knee injury” when they inquired about his knee. Nonetheless, with the woeful Chiefs on the schedule, and one of the two AFC wild card spots seemingly firmly in grasp, the Steelers are opting to be cautious with their star safety, and get him closer to full health.
Steelers All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu will be “questionable this week at best" after sustaining a PCL strain on his left knee, according to Jim Wexell of SteelCityInsider.com.
Crucially, this is not a re-injury of the MCL that had sidelined him earlier in the season. It’s unclear what timeline there is for Polamalu’s return at this point.
That’s the latest on the Steelers’ All-Pro safety; Mike Tomlin says Polamalu will undergo an MRI for his injured left knee. Polamalu injured tore his medial collateral ligament earlier this season, when he missed four games.
With the Steelers midway through their game in Cincinnati, it looks like they'll have to play the rest of the day without their superstar on defense. At least according to this report:
The severity of the injury is unknown, but Polamalu has already missed significant time this year with knee injuries, so this setback is unfortunate, but not necessarily surprising. Stay tuned. (And if you're wondering why the Steelers miss him, look at that picture: he's AWESOME.)
Troy Polamalu Could Return From Injury For Week 17 Game
The Pittsburgh Steelers might be getting one star back just as they lose another. While wide receiver Hines Ward might be a scratch due to his recurring hamstring problems, safety Troy Polamalu could be back for the team’s Week 17 game against the Dolphins. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Polamalu ran at practice, and that head coach Mike Tomlin indicated that Polamalu had not been ruled out yet.
The 8-7 Steelers need to win against the Dolphins on Sunday, and then hope for a bit of help, in the form of different permutations of Texans, Ravens and Jets losses, if they are going to qualify for the postseason. Polamalu has missed 10 games this season due to an assortment of knee injuries, and his absence has been noticeable for a Steelers defense that relies on him to be a playmaking presence in the secondary.
