I refuse to speak ill of Chris Simms. Three years ago, the man suffered a life-threatening injury on the field, returned to the game, and mounted a successful scoring drive before being wheeled off to the hospital. The man is pure granite, and I would not find fault with him if he went 1-for-20 with negative 95 yards passing and 16 interceptions and his pants fell down at midfield, revealing unflattering Muppet Babies-themed underpants.↵
That said...well, the stats are what they are. After filling in for an injured Kyle Orton, Simms completed 3 of 13 passes for 13 yards and threw an interception. He looked positively awful. The defense I'll use on his behalf is that he's rusty, as it's the first meaningful action he's seen since that brutal injury. We don't know yet whether Orton's injury will require Simms to start next week, but if he does, let's withhold judgment until then.
