Update

Jason Snelling Likely To Fill In For Michael Turner Again Week 12

From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Jason Snelling, who filled in for Turner, is likely to do so again Sunday against Tampa Bay. But Turner doesn’t want to rule himself out yet.

“It’s an ankle sprain,” Turner said. “These injuries are kind of like funny. Some guys take six weeks to bounce back, but I don’t think I’ll take that long. I’m just trying to get back to my normal self again.”

Jason Snelling had a total of 89 yards and two touchdowns in Turner’s absence in a Week 11 OT loss to the Giants.

Update

Michael Turner Has High Ankle Sprain, Likely Out Week 11

Via Jay Glazer comes confirmation that Falcons running back Michael Turner has the dreaded high ankle sprain that typically sidelines players for a month or more.

Glazer reports that the Falcons are hopeful that Turner will return relatively soon, although in the meantime they have re-signed running back Aaron Stecker, who they had cut last Saturday, according to Steve Wyche of NFL.com. Backup running back Jerious Norwood, who has been sidelined for the past four games due to a strained hip flexor, may also return for the Falcons’ Week 11 game against the New York Giants.

Michael Turner Leaves Game, Undergoing Tests On Injured Ankle

Falcons running back Michael Turner left the team's Week 10 loss to the Panthers in the second quarter after suffering an apparent ankle injury. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Turner will undergo tests on his ankle on Monday to determine whether his injury is a low sprain or a more severe high ankle sprain. If it is the latter, Turner would likely miss several weeks.

Any prolonged absence on Turner's part would clearly be a fairly devastating loss for the Falcons, who suddenly find themselves scrounging for a playoff spot. After a slow start to the season, Turner rushed for over 400 yards over the last three weeks, and raised his YPC to 5.0.

Turner rushed for 111 yards on nine carries before getting hurt. With backup Jerious Norwood also injured, third-stringer Jason Snelling took over as the Falcons' featured back, and picked up 93 yards from scrimmage against the Panthers. Despite being thin at running back, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution further reports that the Falcons would likely still pass on bringing in troubled former Chief Larry Johnson
