Moraga, CA (Sports Network) – Mickey McConnell netted a career-best 24 points, as the Saint Mary’s-CA Gaels trounced the San Diego State Aztecs, 80-58, in non-league action at McKeon Pavilion in Moraga
McConnell hit 6-of-8 shots from long distance, while also dishing out seven assists for the Gaels (2-0). Omar Samhan registered a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 16 boards, and freshman Matthew Dellavedova also finished with 17 points.
Malcolm Thomas led the way for SDSU (1-1) with 14 points and eight rebounds. Billy White and D.J. Gay also reached double-digit points, posting 10 apiece in the defeat.
SMC opened the game with a 25-5 run and it took a commanding 42-21 lead to the break.
In the second half, the Gaels connected on 48.1 percent of their shots from the floor, as they coasted to the 22-point win.
SMC dropped in 13-of-29 shots from long range, while also scoring 28 points from 14 SDSU turnovers.
