Rashean Mathis Out For Week 12

Jags beat writer Vito Stellino reports that head coach Jack Del Rio has already ruled out cornerback Rashean Mathis for next Monday's game against the San Francisco 49ers. Mathis missed last week's game due to an injured groin.

While the Jaguars and their 25th-ranked pass defense might not miss Mathis too much against the Niners' 23rd-ranked passing offense, Stellino makes this point:

The Texans, with their potent 3rd-ranked passing attack, meet the Jaguars in what figures to essentially be a wildcard elimination game in two weeks.

Original Story

Jags' Rashean Mathis Out For Sunday's Game With Groin Injury

On Monday, Big Cat Country reported that Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis  was undergoing an MRI on his groin, after injuring it during the Jags' 24-22 win over the New York Jets last week.

The results did not satisfy Jag's coach Jack Del Rio and he announced Mathis' will be absent on Sunday.

"He won't play this week," Del Rio said. "It could be a little while. With Rashean, he's proven over time to kind of beat the prognosis. Some guys just heal quickly and Rashean's been that kind of guy for us."

Losing Mathis, the team's top cornerback, is a particularly devastating blow for an already struggling secondary.
