Cristiane 'Cyborg' Santos Also On January Strikeforce Card

Yahoo! Sports is reporting:

Santos is expected to make her first title defense after defeating Gina Carano in August for Strikeforce’s first-ever female belt. The hard-hitting Brazilian has been inactive since the contest while recovering from a shoulder injury.

Santos is expected to meet Dutch fighter Marloes Coenen, who defeated Roxanne Modafferi on the preliminary card of Strikeforce and M-1 Global’s “Fedor vs. Rogers” event earlier this month. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told MMAjunkie.com that the bout was considered a No. 1 contender matchup.

Coenen won the fight with Modafferi in under two minutes so she should be in good health heading into the showdown.

Yahoo! also added more to the Herschel Walker news:

The former Heisman Trophy winner and two-time Pro Bowl running back signed with Strikeforce in September, and he is expected to train at California’s American Kickboxing Academy in preparation for the contest.

Walker is a longtime practitioner of traditional martial arts. The former football star is a sixth-degree black belt in tae kwon do who has also trained in Muay Thai and Kenpo karate.

Herschel Walker's MMA Debut Set for January 2010

Herschel Walker's MMA debut is set according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution's sports editor Twitter account:

Heisman winner Herschel Walker, 47, will make his MMA debut Jan. 30 at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. Story to come shortly.

No word as of yet on who Walker's opponent will be but one can assume he's not going to get thrown into the deep end in this (or any) of his fights.

Herschel signed a deal with the Strikeforce promotion back in September.  The signing was criticized from multiple angles by fans due to confirmation of Walker's struggle with multiple personality disorder and the fact that he has, at times, seemed a little "off" to the observer.

UFC president Dana White even took the time to openly ask the question "Who the [expletive] are they going to get to fight Herschel Walker?"

SBNation.com will have more details as they emerge.
