Florida Tuskers Almost Able to Set Up Shop in 'Perfectville'

The inaugural six-week UFL season has come to a close, and the league has already fielded an undefeated team. Those titans destined to live forever in lesser league immortality are the Florida Tuskers, led by former Saints head coach Jim Haslett and featuring such former gridiron notables as Ricky Manning Jr., Brooks Bollinger, Odell Thurman, Tatum Bell, Todd Sauerbrun and Super Bowl MVP Dexter Jackson.

Whoa, Odell Thurman AND Tatum Bell? That must be a fun locker room.

The Tuskers can complete the impossible dream in Vegas next Friday in the league's championship game against the Las Vegas Locomotives (3-2), who suffered both of their defeats at the hands of the Tuskers. Florida finished off their perfect regular season last night with a 34-27 victory over the Dennis Green-coached California Redwoods in an effort that included two converted onside kicks in the first eight minutes of play. Those tactics would be hard-pressed to work in the NFL, yet the success Haslett is having in the UFL could generate interest in his services for the now vacant Buffalo Bills head coach position.

Which would make him just as foolish a coaching retread choice as Dick Jauron.
