John Tavares makes his first trip to Toronto when the Islanders face off against the Maple Leafs. This and nine other games are on the slate tonight for hockey's version of Feast Week.
The Islanders traveled to Toronto and took care of the Maple Leafs in overtime. Josh Bailey scored the game winning goal with 43 seconds left in the overtime period to give the Islanders a 4-3 win. Goals were scored by Tambellini, Moulson, and Bergenheim for the Islanders and Kessel, Primeau, and Hagman for the Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs had their fair share of chances as they registered 61 shots on goal. Yes, 61 shots on goal.
Martin Erat was the hero for the Nashville Predators as he scores two goals against the Detroit Red Wings including the game winner. Erat had 15 minutes of ice time and 4 takeaways as well in the game. Jason Arnott got the scoring started for the Predators with a power play goal 10 minutes into the first period. Drew Miller initially gave Red Wings a 1-0 lead.
The Rangers score seven straight as they take care of business at Madison Square Garden over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Rangers came back from down 2-0 to make the score 7-2; Marion Gaborik and Sean Avery each score two in the win.
Finally, the Ottawa Senators Mike Fisher scores the game winning goal in overtime to beat the Washington Capitals. Ovechkin has a quiet game with only one assist in 21 minutes of ice time. Brian Elliott got the win for the Senators in relief for Pascal Leclaire.
It's a busy Monday night in the NHL, as 20 teams are in action. The spotlight game of the night is the New York Islanders vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs; it's the first game for Islander John Tavares in Toronto. Tavares originally hails from Toronto and the media there is jumping on his every word. He had this to say about playing in Toronto for the first time:
"I grew up there with the Leafs and was always a Leafs fan and it's where I learned to play the game and love the game and develop my skills. So it should be a lot of fun.
"A lot of people are coming to watch, so I'm going to enjoy it. But I'll keep the importance of the game on my mind and treat it like any other game."
While most of the eyes in the hockey world are going to be on Toronto tonight, here are the rest of the games and where you can join the conversation:
