Sad, sad news this afternoon. The owner of the Washington Wizards (and the Washington Capitals), Abe Pollin, has passed away at the age of 85 according to the Washington Times.
Pollin has owned the Washington Wizards for more than 45 years, and was considered an institution among Washington D.C. sports and entrepreneurs. He was also the majority shareholder of Washington Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Wizards, as well as Washington’s Verizon Center. We’ll have more to come, and check Bullets Forever for more news and reaction. He was universally beloved during his time, and may he rest in peace.
Thoughts and prayers with his family tonight.
UPDATE: ESPN's True Hoop shares some stories from Abe's time as Wizards owner. ... The Washington Post offers a fantastic obituary ... And courtesy of Truth About It, this picture pretty much says it all.

Rest well, Mr. Pollin. DC will be smaller without you.
