Rick Morrissey Makes It Too Easy

You might know Rick Morrissey from such films as "I'm a Chicago Tribune sports columnist, and my job is to make you angry," and "Numbers are dumb, and I'm scared of knowledge!" Morrissey decided to reprise his role in the latter today by leading off his argument for why the Cubs should trade for Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson with this sentence:

Statistics are sucking the life out of baseball.

And then following it up with these:

I know this to be true because some Cubs fans are concerned Curtis Granderson struck out too many times last year. Being worried about Granderson's strikeout total is like being worried about Gisele Bundchen's arches.

Gisele joke? Check. Cluelessness of the parameters of baseball fan debate? Check. Willful ignorance of even the most rudimentary baseball statistics? And ... check.

The column deserves the full FJM treatment, and fortunately Desipio stepped up to the plate. If slightly mean-spirited yet factually correct takedowns of major metropolitan sports columnists are your thing, have at it.
