Texas Guard Varez Ward Suffers Torn Quad; Injury Won't Be Season-Ending
Texas guard Varez Ward suffered a freak injury during pregame warm-ups before Tuesday night's victory over Pitt, which resulted in the starting sophomore being taken off the court on a stretcher.
Initial reports after the game indicated that Ward would likely be out for the season with a knee injury. However, Fox Sports' Jeff Goodman reports via Twitter that Ward has a torn tendon in his quad, which will require non-season ending surgery. Ward is expected to be out 6-10 weeks.
All things considered, this is good news for Texas, which may get Ward back by February. In the meantime, Texas has plenty of depth to help fill the void with freshman J’Covan Brown, who started in Ward's place Tuesday night, and Dogus Balbay.
