The UFC 108 bout between Gabriel Gonzaga and Junior Dos Santos is off following Gonzaga coming down with a case of staph infection, according to Yahoo! Sports' Cagewriter:
The hits keep coming for the UFC, Dana White and matchmaker Joe Silva. The fellas have to scrounge up a quality heavyweight to fight Junior Dos Santos Jan. 2 in Las Vegas at UFC 108. Sources with the UFC confirmed that Gabriel Gonzaga is off the card because of staph infection.
So far UFC 108 has seen the rescheduled Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin bout fall through following Lesnar's illness, Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort is looking like it won't happen thanks to Anderson's elbow acting up again, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was scheduled to take on Cain Velasquez but Nogueira has a bit of the staph, and now dos Santos vs. Gonzaga is off.
It is possible that they attempt to fit Cain into the slot here and have two of their top heavyweight prospects square off on the event but it is less than ideal as Gonzaga was an appropriate step up for Junior without forcing one of their "future stars" to take a loss.
