The Falcons’ star quarterback Matt Ryan—who missed last week’s game, as well—will not play in today’s game vs. the New Orleans Saints. After missing practice all week, he did participate in some walkthroughs with the Falcons offense, so there was thought to be an outside chance that Ryan could play.
Alas, the sputtering Falcons have elected to err on the side of caution, and both Matt Ryan and Michael Turner have been listed as inactive for today’s tilt with the undefeated Saints.
Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is listed as questionable on the team's injury report after sitting out practice again on Friday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Ryan missed the team's Week 13 loss to the Eagles after suffering a turf toe injury the previous week. He has been held out of practice all this week, only participating in the team's walk-throughs. At 6-6, the Falcons face a must-win game this weekend against the undefeated Saints.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who missed the team’s game last week due to turf toe, did not practice on Thursday, although he did participate in the team’s walk-through.
Contrary to prior reports that the team would perhaps hold Ryan out if the offensive line was not at full strength, Falcons head coach Mike Smith told the press that if Ryan is healthy enough to play, he will in fact play, according to Jeff Schultz of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The 6-6 Falcons face what is an essentially a playoff game when they take on the undefeated Saints on Sunday. Last week, the Falcons were only able to score a meaningless garbage-time touchdown with Ryan and running back Michael Turner out of the lineup. If they are going to have any chance of pinning a loss on New Orleans, they will at least need Ryan in the lineup.
Fox Sport’s Jay Glazer reports that Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan will miss the team’s pivotal Week 13 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles as he recovers from his sprained toe. Ryan will reportedly consult with a specialist in Charlotte on his injured toe.
With the 6-5 Falcons taking on the 7-4 Eagles this week with an NFC wildcard berth hanging in the balance, losing Ryan is especially devastating for Atlanta. While backup Chris Redman acquitted himself well, leading the Falcons on a game-wining drive against the Bucs last week, the Falcons will certainly miss Ryan when against a stiffer pass defense like Philadelphia’s. The Falcons take on the Saints in Week 14, before finishing with a slate of winnable games.
Good news for the Atlanta Falcons and their still-alive playoff hopes. According to Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is day-to-day with a sprained big toe. Fortunately for the Falcons, Ryan did not suffer a fracture.
While backup quarterback Chris Redman guided the Falcons to a last-minute win over the floundering Tampa Bay Bucs, the Falcons will need Ryan when they take on the Eagles and Saints the next two weeks if they are going to stay in the wildcard hunt.
Ryan suffered the injury when Buccaneers defensive end Stylez White rolled on his foot. The Fox broadcasters described the injury as a "jammed toe."
No announcement has been mad about Ryan's injury, but unless it's a serious toe problem -- maybe turf toe or a fractured bone -- it seems reasonable to expect Ryan to return some time in the next few weeks. The Falcons will hope so, anyway.
