PETA Not Happy With 'BatManu'

By now you've probably seen the video of Manu Ginobili swiping a bat out of mid-air. Your reaction may have been, "Wow, that's awesome!" or maybe even, "Wow, that's really awesome!" PETA disagrees.

To bludgeon a 4-ounce animal to death, it takes either a small man or a totally unthinking one—with no respect or consideration for lives humbler than his own. This is a time when athletes in particular need to be on their best behavior around any animal and show that they have brains and a heart, not just reactionary brawn.

Bats always try to avoid contact with humans, and there are plenty of easy ways to keep bats out of a basketball arena (or your home). We hope that the next time someone's life is on the line, Manu Ginobili will take just a few seconds to think before he acts.

Someone really should take the time to FJM that whole message from PETA. Oh, good: someone already did.

A bat is nothing more than a RAT with wings. When a rat comes in your building, you KILL it. For the most, I usually agree with PETA but COME ON, its a freakin bat. Smoke the varment…..continue play! at $40,000 dollars a minute for TV time, is any bat on the planet worth a hill of beans?
Earth to PETA …. Pick your battles and your causes with a little more wisdom….idiots.

Agreed - PETA is wrong on so many points here

First and foremost – the bat was NOT bludgeoned to death.

It was stunned, then picked up, handed to a security person, taken outside and released, at which point it flew away.

If Manu was a real brute, he would have stomped the bat’s guts out. But he’s not and he didn’t.

If anything, his actions lead directly to the release of the living bat outside the arena.

And at quite a cost to himself as, because the bat was released without testing, Manu (and probably the security guard) both have to get precautionary rabies shots.

Man, I’m as liberal as the next guy, but stuff like this from PETA does NOTHING to win people to their cause.
