Because on his program last night, Colbert rescued the U.S. Men’s Speedskating team from a sponsorless existence, which might have prevented them from competing at the 2010 Winter Olympics. (The team’s former sponsor, DSB Bank, went bankrupt last week.) So Colbert stepped up, brought speedskater Dan Jansen on his program, and signed papers to make Colbert Nation the official sponsor of speedskating at the 2010 Olympics. American hero, folks. American. Hero.
