Chiefs Claim WR Chris Chambers Off Waivers

A day after the Chargers released him, Adam Schefter reports that Chris Chambers has found a new home in Kansas City, as the Chiefs have claimed him off of waivers. The Chiefs will take on the remainder of Chambers' contract, roughly $2.4 million.

While Chambers should be a decent option opposite Dwayne Bowe for the wide receiver-needy Chiefs -- even given his struggles this season -- the Chiefs were likely also motivated to claim Chambers to pump him for information on divisional rival San Diego's offensive playbook, for what it's worth. The Redskins tried this tactic when they signed former Giant quarterback Andre Woodson to their practice squad before opening the season against New York. While it seems dubious that the Skins gleaned any useful information from this move, NFL head coaches are always looking for any edge -- and likewise want to appear to be seeking every edge lest they open themselves to criticism -- that they treat any and all injury news and roster moves with the same importance government officials do state secrets.

Hmm...

I understand them wanting to upgrade their receiving corps and all, and he has the capacity to be no worse than an average receiver, even at this point in his career, but at that price? I guess they figured they didnt’ have a chance to attract him as a free agent.

Remember when the Panthers had a good offensive line? Yeah, me too.
