The Other Side Of Tiger Woods

Since it seems to be Pile On Tiger Woods Week -- mishandling weird PR situations will do that to a megarich celebrity athlete -- we might as well get to the part where Tiger Woods isn't a very good world citizen. Oh, you thought this post was going to be about smashed-in rear windshields? Nah, son. Let's get political instead.

That's precisely what Dave Zirin does in this typically scathing post on his own site. Zirin reminds readers that instead of focusing on Tiger's trivial personal foibles, we'd be better off criticizing the golfer for his willingness to partner with controversial companies like Chevron and scrutinizing the blind eye Woods turned to just how things get built in Dubai, where Woods has a $100 million golf course that bears his name. (Hint: Things in Dubai get built with slave labor. In the desert. In shocking conditions most visitors never see.)

Sure, it's political, and sure, you might not necessarily agree from the left or the right, but we can probably all agree that how Woods handles his massive professional impact is slightly more important than how his wife allegedly handles a four-iron.

Then again, there's a reason US Weekly pulls a profit while the New Yorker can't. People like stupid stuff. You should all be ashamed! Now excuse me while I go play Modern Warfare 2 and eat Walgreens brand beef taquitos. What were we talking about again?
