Nov 4, 2009 - A clear challenger for the winner of the Brock Lesnar v. Shane Carwin heavyweight title fight at UFC 108 will emerge that same night when Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira takes on Cain Velasquez:
According to Sensei Sportv’s blog, Nogueira’s manager confirmed that the Brazilian, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-5-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) set for UFC 108 will face the undefeated heavyweight Cain Velasquez (7-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) at UFC 108, which takes place at January 2.
Nogueira is coming off a win in a fight of the year contender against fellow MMA legend Randy Couture while Velasquez dominated Ben Rothwell en route to a TKO stoppage at UFC 104.
Velasquez's one major flaw appears to be his lack of punching power while Nogueira has a legendary chin, so it is unlikely that Cain can finish him with strikes. Cain's strong point is his wrestling, while Nogueira is arguably the greatest heavyweight submission artist in the history of MMA. It will be interesting to see if the fight is decided on the feet or if Cain will try to go to the ground with a man who can submit anyone on any given night.
