The Hawkeyes aren't the only team in Iowa City to suffer a quarterback injury. Northwestern starter Mike Kafka, who has been nursing a halftime injury, sat out several series in the first half. Backup Dan Persa was knocked out of the game by a hard hit, forcing the less-than-healthy Kafka to take the field.
No team wants to put its injured starting quarterback in the game, of course. What happens if Kafka re-aggravates his injury? Easy: they insert kicker Stefan Demos. He complies with Northwestern's stipulation that their quarterback must have exactly five letters in his last name. What's more, he has one career pass attempt -- a nine-yard completion, which is good for a 175.6 passer rating.
Northwestern's fourth-string option is a wheelbarrow full of logs.
