While at Soldier Field today, Jeff Pearlman took his attention away from the Cardinals' drubbing of the Bears long enough to lament a life of watching sports from the press box. In part:
As an up and comer, I longed for the press box. Now, I long to escape the press box. Just a miserable place to observe a sporting event, generally alongside unhappy people who spend 80 percent of their time checking e-mail, downloading porn, calling so and so to complain about so and so.
It's maudlin, maybe even laughably so, but I suppose we shouldn't judge unless we've been put in his position. Now it's my turn. Ahem.
"As an up-and-comer, I longed to write about sports on my computer. Now, I like writing about sports on my computer. Just a nice place to observe a sporting event, generally alongside swell folks who spend 80 percent of their time checking e-mail, downloading porn (?), calling so and so to complain about so and so."
I tried to complain, and I failed miserably. Sorry.
