Nov 9, 2009 - The "Flash In The Pan" title goes to a player each week that has the chance to pop for a week or two beyond that which you would otherwise expect. Steve Breaston is by no means a slouch in fantasy football, but there is reason to believe he could break out soon for the Cardinals.
My first thought is, "Let no man confuse this year's Steve Breaston with the Steve Breaston of 2008." But wait a second...he was the third wide receiver behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Firtzgerald last year, and yet still had 77 catches, and over 1,000 yards receiving.
The truth is he is actually on pace to get similar stats. He already has 30 receptions for 400 yards through 7 games. How could I make him this week's "Flash In The Pan" then? Well, in the 3rd quarter of the Cardinals game this past weekend, Anquan Boldin came out of the game with an ankle injury. Boldin has been battling this ankle injury since October 11 in a game against the Houston Texans, but always seems to be ready to go for the next game. The Cardinals have gone into full protection mode for Boldin, resting him during the week to keep him ready for the game against Chicago.
Boldin took a pretty good shot against the Panthers last week and had to come out. If he is really one play away from sitting out for a game or two, Steve Breaston owners should be ecstatic. Kurt Warner has plenty of confidence in him and any receiver playing opposite Larry Fitzgerald is going to find himself in one-on-one situations all day long.
If Breaston finds himself starting, he has the chance to perform like a #1 WR in all fantasy formats.

Update on last week's "Flash In The Pan" honoree, Justin Forsett: The Seahawks just released Edgerrin James this week, which ostensibly makes Forsett that much closer to seeing more carries on offense. Should Julius Jones fumble away Jim Mora's confidence in him for good, Forsett stands to put up some very decent fantasy stats.
