Flames' Curtis Glencross Inexplicably Suspended Three Games For Hit

Photo

Nov 9, 2009 - According to Doug McKenzie, Flames winger Curtis Glencross has been suspended for a trio of games after his blindside hit on Chris Drury of the New York Rangers.

The NHL has yet to explain why Glencross' action was considered worthy of a suspension, while others like the Flyers Mike Richards have escaped punishment for similar plays.

Here's the hit, in case you missed it:

I think you mean his brother Bob.

Also, that video barely shows the hit at all, so it’s hard for me to determine if the hit is or is not suspension worthy. But I wouldn’t say it’s inexplicable – Glencross hit Drury in the head with, as you termed it, a blindside hit. Drury didn’t see Glencross coming, and at no time did he even have the puck. That’s a pretty foul hit. I don’t think three games is excessive at all, but I do wish the league would be more consistent in handing these things out.

your a fool..

he was hit high and HE DIDNT HAVE THE PUCK!

its not hard to see. sure it looked like he was getting it, but in hockey you cant hit players that you think are getting the puck.

at no time did drury even touch the puck, yet he was blindsided with a high hit.

and glencross had plenty of time to pull up.
3 games is nowhere close to excessive. its actually lenient.

sure they should be more consistent with all calls (like malkin not being suspended for a slew foot in the cup) but to say that he was inexplicably suspended just makes you sound like a fool who doesn’t know the smallest thing about hockey

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

No one’s saying Glencross shouldn’t have been suspended or the hit wasn’t bad.

The discussion point is why the NHL suspends Glencross, but not others for similar fouls.

Because unlike Mike Richards, Curtis Glencross was once an Anaheim Duck.

I’m saying that Glencross should not have been suspended. It was a clean hit as defined by the NHL. There was no elbow and didn’t leave his feet. Drury was caught admiring a pass which he was caught doing back in 2007 when Chris Neil drilled him. Neil wasn’t suspended for that hit and that was far dirtier than this one.

The NHL Wheel of Justice just keeps spinning.

It was clean except that it was interference.

Richards on Booth vs Glen X on Drury is totally different.

Booth had just played the puck, Drury was nowhere near the puck. It’s already illegal to hit a guy without the puck, this is just an extension of that enforcement.

Absolutely, the puck was already across the ice, and this isnt too far off the hit that Chris Neil laid on Drury in 2007 which sparked a brawl at mid-ice. and to the person under me, Girardi went right after glencross after it happend and was pretty much his shadow whenever they were on the ice together. the next series of play girardi went out of his way to hit glencross

I don’t like either hit but nice to see a Rangers fan stick up for Richie hard Drury didn’t touch the puck, Booth did bottom line. Would have been nice to see someone go after Glencross for knocking out their captain did anyone go after him later on?
