Just kidding. Sam-I-Am isn’t going to be a player coach anytime soon. But the Wizards assistant coach did, according to Wiz beat writer Michael Lee, lace ’em up and practice with the Wizards:
Gilbert Arenas sat out of practice today with a sore left calf & Sam Cassell was called into PG duty. Cassell said, ‘I look good for 39.’
First of all, Arenas sitting out may cause some alarm, but it shouldn’t. He hasn’t really played in three years, and it’s understandable that he might need some rest as he gets his legs back. Nothing to see here, move along…
As for Cassell, this reminds me of when Michael Jordan came back to workout with the Wizards, except the exact opposite. Why? Because Jordan is a blowhard, and Sam’s awesome:
More Sam Cassell is always a good thing.
