Yahoo!'s Andy Behrens continues the theme of Titans love with his list of waiver wire pickups for Week 13:
ESPN’s Matthew Berry points out some barely owned receivers, who, while they may not be household names, have certainly been fantasy factors the past few weeks:
Kenny Britt, WR, Titans (8 percent): Two important things happened for young Kenny Britt over the past three weeks. One, Justin Gage got hurt, opening up more playing time for Britt. And two, Vince Young became an actual NFL quarterback, with good throws and everything. Since Gage has been out, Britt has increased his number of receptions in three straight weeks, scored in each of his past two and caught the game winner against the Cardinals on Sunday to cap off a terrific seven for 128 and a score day. (That was the third thing.) When you look at Britt’s playoff schedule (starting in Week 14) and see he gets St. Louis, Miami, San Diego and Seattle, you can’t help but smile.
Jason Avant, WR, Eagles (2 percent): I like Jeremy Maclin as well, but he’s mentioned above. And look at what Avant has done in the past three weeks. He had eight for 156 at San Diego, a touchdown at Chicago and five for 94 against Washington. With DeSean Jackson now likely out and the Falcons’ 27th-ranked pass defense on the docket Sunday, I really like Avant.
Over at FF Toolbox, they remind us of three more players who are still available in a lot of leagues, and are producing.
Rock Cartwrtight:
He lost a few carries to Quinton Ganther and Marcus Mason last week, but still got the bulk of the ground work and some action in the passing game with three receptions for 26 yards. He draws the New Orleans Saints this week who, for all their offensive prowess, have been fairly accommodating to opposing running backs.
Pierre Garcon:
Garcon has three touchdowns over [the last three weeks] and notched his first career 100-yard game against a stingy Ravens team in week 11. He could significantly boost his numbers against a Tennessee team that is second to last in the league against the pass, giving up more than two TDs and 267 yards per game to opposing receivers.
Robert Meachem:
Scores in four games in a row now. This is not coincidence. This is just plain, old-fashioned talent. Get over any hangups you have about number of catches and number of yards. Clearly, the touchdowns more than make up for Meachem’s otherwise limited participation in this, the most prolific offense in the league.
It's Week 13, hopefully your only need for the waiver wire is because of injury. If you're trying to replace healthy players on your roster this late in the season, you're probably fighting for the Toilet Bowl in your league. Then again, some fantasy owners are master-tinkerers and just don't feel right unless they put in a waiver claim. Plus, you can never have enough good talent on the bench for the playoffs.
No matter which kind of owner you are, we present some Week 13 options for the truly desperate, or the truly obsessive. Some of these guys shouldn't even be on the waiver wire, but a quick scan of the big fantasy corporate media conglomerations shows they are. If you need some help, check these names on your league's waiver wire.
QBs
Vince Young - He's still available, and Sunday's effort proved he can produce with his arm.
Alex Smith - Quietly, the former #1 pick is finding his way in San Fran.
Ryan Fitzpatrick - His sudden success with T.O. makes him fantasy-relevant, if just barely.
Josh Freeman - He's showing some potential in Tampa Bay.
Wild Card: Chris Redman - He'll be filling in for Matt Ryan, at least for this week, and the Falcons do have weapons on offense.
RBs
Justin Forsett - Yes, he's still available in many leagues.
Fred Jackson - He looks to be RB1 in Buffalo.
Jerious Norwood - Michael Turner's injury means that Norwood will get plenty of touches down the stretch.
Jamaal Charles - His speed is starting to pay dividends in KC.
WRs
Jason Avant - Avant has been coming on in recent weeks, but now with DeSean Jackson's injury, he could get even more targets.
Malcolm Floyd - He's caught 4 passes for over 40 yards this season - the only problem - none of them were for TDs. But there's potential.
Chris Chambers - Dwayne Bowe's suspension means Chambers has been getting the rock.
Super Sleepers For Deep Leagues
If you’re playing in a deep league with 16 teams, maybe even 20, that allow large benches and multiple players at a position for the active gameday roster, finding any help on the waiver wire this late in the season is hard to do. Here are three guys that are super-sleepers. We’re not saying they’ll help you, but if you’re desperate…
Brandon Jackson – He was once thought to be the franchise’s RB of the future but was completely overshadowed by the previously-unknown Ryan Grant. While Jackson only has 69 rushing yards on 23 carries, he has established himself as Ryan Grant’s backup. With the Packers offense rolling, it’s critical to grab Jackson as a handcuff if you have Grant.
Jabar Gaffney – Eddie Royal? Brandon Stokely? Believe it or not, Jabar Gaffney has quietly become the Broncos second-leading receiver with 294 receiving yards on only 29 catches. He doesn’t have any touchdowns, but he’s become a consistent receiver. If Brandon Marshall gets injured (or fights some furniture again), Gaffney would become a hot commodity as the fantasy season heads into the playoffs.
Danny Amendola – The Rams are still terrible even with Kyle Boller at QB (raise your hand if you’re surprised by that) but their young WR corps is gaining critical experience. Danny Amendola has been hot lately with 116 receiving yards over the past two games. He’s especially valuable in keeper leagues if you can wait until the Rams finally draft a decent QB.
