Last Saturday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks was supposed to be a milestone moment for Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Cleveland’s long-time center and one of the league’s classiest players. He was about to break the franchise’s all-time record for games played, which is a big deal because Ilgauskas’ foot problems have nearly ended his career several times.
But as with many things with the Cavaliers, leave it to Mike Brown to screw things up. Brown elected not to play Ilgauskas at all – not even one minute! – in the game. Take that, sentimentality!
Ilgauskas, 34, came into Saturday’s game against Dallas tied with Cavs general manager Danny Ferry with 723 games played, first in franchise history.
Everything was set for the Cavs to honor the major accomplishment. However, Brown inexplicably saddled Ilgauskas with what is thought to be his first “DNP-CD” of his career.
Ilgauskas, predictably, got pissed and hasn’t talked to the media since, leaving LeBron James to speak out on his behalf. And for possibly the only time ever, I agree with LeBron. Of all people to piss off, why Big Z?
(What’s that? Mike Brown says he’s treated players right during his time as coach? Your argument is invalid!)
