76-69: Western Kentucky Upsets No. 24 Vanderbilt, Slaughter Posts 27 Points
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - A.J. Slaughter scored a game-high 27 points as the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers posted a 76-69 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in non-conference action at the Sommet Center.
Also having a strong game for the Hilltoppers (5-3) as they won their third in a row was Sergio Kerusch with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Jeremy Evans chipped in 12 points and four blocked shots as well.
The Commodores (6-3), losers of two straight, were paced by Jeffery Taylor with 21 points and nine boards, followed by Jermaine Beal who posted 12 points and four assists before fouling out.
WKU converted an even 50 percent from the field in the first half, but the squad hit on only 2-of-8 beyond the arc and 5-of-9 at the free-throw line, en route to a 38-37 deficit at the break.
In the second half it was Vandy that had a hard time finding the range from the perimeter, hitting on only 1-of-9 chance behind the three-point line in the seven-point decision.
The Hilltoppers handled Vanderbilt on the glass, 40-31, and turned the ball over just eight times on the night.
