Ever since Ray Emery went down with a torn abdominal muscle, the Flyers have been scrambling to find a sufficient backup goaltender for Brian Boucher. Their starting goaltender in the AHL, Johan Backlund, is only in his first season in North America and really is just too green to be the backup. The pool of available goaltenders in the league is very small and hence the asking price is going to be huge for a player that the team will only need for four weeks.
That makes their final option someone that is readily available, and thus the Flyers may be looking to settle on John Grahame, who has played a total of 224 NHL games and was a part of the 2004 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning. For the last few years though, Grahame has been out of the league, playing half a season over in the KHL and most recently, in his local men's league.
That means the next time you suit up and head out on the ice for your next league game, you too could be scouted by an NHL team.
