Xavier leads No. 19 Cincinnati, 31-26, at halftime of the Crosstown Shootout. But the action on the court hasn't been the story here.
Actually, scratch that. The extracurricular activities on the court have been the story.
There were two on-court altercations in the first half. The first happened after the Bearcats' Cashmere Wright fouled Xavier's Dante Jackson. The second after Jason Love committed an intentional foul as Cincy's Lance Stephenson was going to the hoop. That happened at the under four media timeout, so the Cincinnati players had to go through Xavier bench to get to their corner, which led to this. (H/T: Chris Littmann) The Cintas Center staff even had to bring security out at the buzzer to ensure nothing else happened.
The first half tally: two technicals and a flagrant foul. If the teams keep it up, they could match last season's total of six T's and an ejection. A handmade sign found in the stands by The Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy sums it up, "Refs Lost Control. Send National Guard."
Even though the Bearcats and Musketeers don't like each other, they both share Cincinnati. That means the law of former Bengals head coach Sam Wyche applies to both teams.
