Over at SB Nation’s Raiders blog, Silver and Black Pride, it seems that Charlie Frye is being welcomed with open arms:
Charlie Frye is being looked at by Oakland Raider Head Coach Tom Cable as the man who can save his job. It appears that either Al Davis has lost confidence in JaMarcus Russell or that Tom Cable is taking the “I don’t care, I am going to get fired if I start JaMarcus Russell and lose three straight anyway so I am going to start the guy who gives us the best opportunity to win approach”.
And Raider Nation, I am in 100% percent agreement.
Frye has the ability to opperate in a moving pocket, improvise and throw the deep ball. I have to say that I am very excited to see what he can do in this offense. I am also excited to see Brandon Myers finally get a shot at getting some meaningful reps at the Tight End spot.
No, Raider Nation, this season is not lost, and, what is becoming very clear is that JaMarcus Russell has lost this team and Tom Cable was about to as well, if he stayed with the Me-First Disappointment, JaMarcus Russell.
And really, by embracing Frye-as-starter, the Raiders and their fans have declared Jamarcus Russel a lost cause. Perhaps not in the NFL, but certainly in Oakland, it looks as though Russel’s been an unmitigated failure; “Charlie Frye, starting quarterback” is being held as a welcome alternative to Jamarcus Russell. Enough said, really.
JaMarcus Russell has officially hit rock bottom.
Adam Schefter is reporting that the Raiders will start Charlie Frye, who has not thrown a pass all regular season, in place of the injured Bruce Gradkowski Sunday at Denver. Keep in mind that Russell is perfectly healthy and physically capable of playing. In other words, head coach Tom Cable has decided that Frye is the better QB than Russell.
Although it is only his third season, it may now be safe to call the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft a bust.
J.P. Losman, last seen leading the Las Vegas Locomotives to the UFL championship, has agreed to terms to join the Raiders, reports Mike Florio.
The report was confirmed by NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi.
Bruce Gradkowski, who had started four games for the Raiders this season, missed the second half of his team's 34-13 loss to the Washington Redskins with a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee and a partially torn MCL in his right knee. A second opinion Tuesday confirmed that result. On Monday, Raiders coach Tom Cable said that wasn't quite ready to elevate former No. 1 overall draft pick JaMarcus Russell back into the starting role, and that he wouldn't rule out third-stringer Charlie Frye as an option if Gradkowski couldn't play. A decision on the team's starting quarterback for Week 15 is expected Wednesday.
That's Charlie Frye, who has played in just three games in the last four seasons. Russell has gone from No. 1 overall draft pick to now fighting it out with Charlie Frye and J.P. Losman. Yep.
Visit SB Nation's Silver And Black Pride for more on this signing, where they remind you that signing Losman is "not a typo."
Charlie Frye To Start Sunday Against Cleveland
Charlie Frye, who made his first start of the season last week in Oakland's 20-19 win at Denver, but lasted only until he was knocked out of the game with a concussion, will reportedly get the nod as starter against this week against the Browns.
Before he can play (or practice), Frye has to be "symptom-free" from his concussion.
Charlie Frye against Derek Anderson. Feel the excitement.
