Jon Scheyer Leads No. 7 Duke In Rout Of Gardner-Webb

December 15 - Durham, NC (Sports Network) - Jon Scheyer had career highs of 36 points and nine assists to go with eight rebounds, as the seventh-ranked Duke Blue Devils annihilated the Garder-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs, 113-68, in a non- conference matchup at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Scheyer made a career-high 11-of-13 field goals, including a career-best 7-of-9 performance from beyond the arc, for the Blue Devils (8-1), who have won two in a row since their first defeat of the season against Wisconsin on December 2.

Andre Dawkins made a trio of three-pointers on his way to 16 points off the bench. Brian Zoubek and Miles Plumlee each had 13 points. Zoubek also had eight rebounds. Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith chipped in 11 points apiece for Duke, which shot 65.2 percent from the floor.

Auryn MacMillan ended with 14 points and four rebounds for the Bulldogs (3-5), who have lost five in a row since opening the season with three consecutive wins. C.J. Hailey finished with 11 points while Jonathan Moore and Grayson Flittner each had 10 points for Gardner-Webb, which turned the ball over 23 times.

The Bulldogs were able to hang with Duke early on. A Hailey three-pointer and jumper got Gardner-Webb within 17-16 with less than 13 1/2 minutes to play until half.

The Blue Devils responded in a huge way, going on a 30-10 run. Scheyer tallied 14 points during the burst, which Smith capped off with a free throw for a 47-26 lead with about two minutes remaining.

Scheyer scored 24 points in the first half to help Duke build a 49-31 margin at the break. The Blue Devils shot 63 percent from the floor during the initial 20 minutes.

Duke started the second half on a 27-10 spurt to turn the contest into a full- on rout. Singler tallied six points during the flurry, including a three-point play to make it a 76-41 game with 12:42 left.

This was the first-ever meeting between Duke and Gardner-Webb on the hardwood...Duke has won 34 straight home games against unranked opponents, dating back to a 68-67 loss to Florida State on February 4, 2007...The Blue Devils have won a current NCAA-best 74 consecutive non-conference home games...Duke has won 47 straight December home games, dating back to a 62-61 loss to Michigan on December 8, 1996...Scheyer is the first Blue Devil to record 1,500 points, 400 rebounds, 250 assists, 200 three-point field goals and 150 steals in a career.
