It seems like everyday there is another questionable hit in the NHL. This time it was Avalanche Forward David Koci giving Capitals star Defenseman Mike Green a face full of glass.
Koci was given a five minute major and a game misconduct while Green missed the rest of the game after being helped to the locker room. A pretty good trade off for the Avalanche. They lose a fourth line player that plays five minutes a game while the Caps were forced to play the rest of the game without their star Defenseman.
Capitals Head Coach Bruce Boudreau was vocal of his displeasure with the hit by Koci.
"Please, the guy has one goal in six years," Boudreau said of Koci. "He couldn't play in the American league. If you're looking to get things out of the game ...I'm glad he's making a living. If this was any game, he gets on the ice in the first three minutes. He gets into his fight with the [other team's enforcer] and then he sits at the end of the bench and that's it. So what good is he?"
It is being reported today that Green is questionable for the Capitals game on Friday but he is not expected to be out of the lineup very long.
Asked about Green's status, Boudreau added: "His face doesn't look okay. But he's a pretty tough guy. His eye is black and will probably be closed by tomorrow so I don't know if we'll have him [Friday]. Hopefully because we have a couple of days before we play he'll be alright. To me that's just bush league hit."
Green will be back in the Capitals lineup in a couple of days but how long will Koci be out of the lineup? There is no use guessing what type of punishment the NHL will dish out for this hit. I'll try anyway and predict a five game suspension.
