Former Boxing World Champion Ricardo Mayorga To Make MMA Debut Against Din Thomas

Former World Boxing Association and World Boxing Council champion Ricardo Mayorga will make his mixed martial arts debut in Shine Fights against veteran Din Thomas according to MMA Mania:

Former UFC lightweight Din Thomas will welcome former boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga to the world of mixed martial arts when the two clash at the upcoming third event from the Shine Fights promotion, which is expected to go down in March 2010 at a venue to be named.

MMAmania.com confirmed the match-up earlier today.

Mayorga is a brilliant promoter with the way he has used words to sell fights in the past.  Ricardo has no problem bringing wives and mothers into pre-fight trash talking and he's never been above a good brawl at a presser.  As can all be seen in this video leading up to his 2007 bout with Fernando Vargas:

Thomas himself has not been one to shy away from verbal sparring.  Including this tidbit from a conversation Din had with MMA Spot about Ricardo:

I think he is afraid of me. If he does accept the fight I will put him into retirement and send him back to his fruit stand in Nicaragua. He will be wearing a straw hat, smoking cigarettes, and selling bananas once and for all. This is MMA and I will beat him standing or on the ground. I will let him pick how he wants to lose his first MMA fight."

The build up for this fight should be intensely interesting and seeing what Mayorga is able to bring to the table in MMA should be fun to watch.
