Every so often, some nostalgic old pro will come around and make some statement about raising the rim so that the NBA wouldn't just be about dunking and athleticism. You know, because those aren't skills, and stuff like shooting, ball movement and passing are what's needed to draw in fans.
Rarely, however, do you get a current NBA player advocating this position, which makes Paul Pierce's position on the matter all the more interesting. The Celtics star is currently guest-blogging for the Boston Globe, and in his latest blog post, he listed several things he would change about the league, including ...
Raise the rim three inches: The athletes today are crazy. You see the way guys are jumping these days. I would raise the rim three inches. Then, you have to learn the art of the jump shot. You'll have to know how to play this game a little bit better then. Raising the rim, you'll see improved play. You'll see increasing fundamentals. I'm telling you.
Three inches? Did he mean three feet? Because raising the rim three inches would be like making a football field 101 yards instead of 100. Sure, you could do it, but will it make any sort of difference?
(Somewhere, David Stern is probably smiling. Yes, great idea Paul! I can show people I'm in charge with this!).

Princess Pierce is Nothing but
a whiny hater. He’s mad because he’s losing his hops. Dunking brings excitement to the game wtf. This drama queen needs to close his girly mouth and go back to doing what he does best fake getting fouled.
