After the Redskins hired former Bucs GM Bruce Allen on Thursday, much of the speculation was that the team would go after Jon Gruden, who was the coach under Allen in both Oakland and Tampa Bay. But The Denver Post is reporting that the Redskins are in talks with former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan about their soon-to-be vacancy at the head coaching position.
Allen said on Thursday that Jim Zorn was still the Redskins head coach and that he needed to see how the relationship between the two develops. Anyone who follows the team at all knows this is just the company line: Zorn has been fired for months, it's just a matter of when the team makes it official.
The combination of Allen and Shanahan would be a sea change for the Redskins organization by combining an actual GM, something they've never had under owner Dan Snyder, with an experienced, and proven, head coach.
