Strikeforce marquee attraction Fedor Emelianenko (31-1) will likely return to the CBS airwaves in April 2010 when he welcomes a challenge from Fabricio Werdum (13-4-1) in a bout tentatively scheduled for the next installment of "Saturday Night Fights."
While nothing is official at this time, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed his intentions of bringing the two heavyweights together during his post-fight remarks following the "Evolution" event on Dec. 19.
- MMA Mania reports on the rumored fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Fabricio Werdum
While on paper a fight between Werdum and Fedor is a better fight than Fedor's last fight against Brett Rogers it is hard to see this being an easy sell. Both fighters don't speak English, neither of them are really electric personalities, and other than the last CBS fight neither man has a lot of recognition with the casual American sports fan.
Still, from a sporting aspect this is one of the best fights Strikeforce can give Fedor. With Golden Glory making it clear that Alistair Overeem won't be fighting in the U.S. until the end of 2010 this is more or less it for Emelianenko.
SBNation.com will have more information once the match-up is confirmed or more details emerge.

Nice!
I was wondering when an announcement would come. Werdum is their best option outside of Overeem, but I don’t see his style matching up well at all against Fedor. If Minotauro got handled the way he did by Fedor each time, I don’t see Werdum being able to control Fedor on the ground at all. I suppose he could pull out a crazy sub, being the ADCC Champ and all, but I just see Fedor’s explosive hips getting him out of any trouble on the mat. I say Fedor via TKO, late in the 2nd.
