Eric Maynor Traded To Utah Jazz

Perhaps feeling left out by all the attention that Major League Baseball was receiving for their Hot Stove season, the NBA showed that it too can pull off a trade on Tuesday, when the the Thunder and Jazz agreed to a deal.

Rookie guard Eric Maynor is headed from Utah to Oklahoma City, along with Matt Harpring's contract, in exchange for the rights to a 2002 draft pick who has never played in the league, Peter Fehse. To make room for Maynor, who you may remember from his playing days at VCU, the Thunder waived Shaun Livingston and Mike Wilks.

SB Nation's SLC Dunk thinks this has to be the start of something more.

Is something else on the horizon?  Bigger news coming?  Is this the first domino?  There has to be something else happening. [...]

My guess is that they don't want to bring on more money, so there could be a 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 trade coming shortly.  My immediate thought was a Boozer for Hinrich and Thomas swap given that the Jazz need another PG (although very expensive) and the Bulls need a shakeup right now.  If the trade fails for the Bulls, then at the worst they lose Booze's contract next season and they become big players in the FA market.  Maybe the Jazz move Hinrich to the two at times and pair him with Deron?

Losing Maynor though kind of hurts because he's a solid player and could be a good PG in the league.  He would have been one of the last players I thought would be traded.  I guess he's free of his pink backpack now.

Be sure to check out more at both SLC Dunk and Welcome To Loud City as this continues to develop.

But wouldn't Harpring's salary have been covered by insurance anyway?

Overheard in press box, from local reporter: 'If this Moore kid was any good, they'd be up 31-0 right now.'

It's on their salary cap though

And the Jazz’s motivation is to get under the luxury tax, so clearing Harpring’s salary helps even if insurance is paying most of it.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
