The word on Mark Sanchez’s knee is that it is sprained, not strained, and his status for their next game on December 13 at Tampa is unknown. The severity of the sprain is also unknown.
Regardless, head coach Rex Ryan wasn’t pleased with the headfirst dive that caused the injury, especially after the team brought in Joe Girardi to teach him the fine art of sliding feet first (which is completely ridiculous, for the record. I mean, how hard is it to slide? Little kids do it without instruction. See now, what you do, Mark, is you throw your feet out first in front of you, and then fall on your ass):
“I love the kid, but he’s got to grow up and understand he represents our entire organization,” Ryan said. “We want what’s best for him.”
I asked Ryan what he thought Girardi was thinking if he was watching the game and saw Sanchez diving headfirst. “He’s probably calling him a knucklehead or something like that,” he said. “He’s our knucklehead and we love him.”
