The common use of a pen is to write things on a piece of paper. It shouldn’t be any more valuable just because some famous NBA player used it to sign a non-guaranteed contract. But once again, common sense flies by the wayside when sports memorabilia is at stake.
As Yahoo’s Ball Don’t Lie notes, he Philadelphia 76ers are auctioning off the pen Allen Iverson used to sign his non-guaranteed contract with them, with the proceeds going to Sixers Charities and the Comcast-Spectacor Foundation. Anyone want to guess what the opening bid is?
$160. For a tool that you use to write things down on a piece of paper.
Guys, that girl you meet at a bar doesn’t care that you gave her your number using the same pen a professional athlete used to sign his non-guaranteed contract.
