7. Oh, And Speaking Of The Hawks...

This is a new feature, but now, every week we'll dedicate a song to a different team, player, or coach in the NBA. This week? Outkast, "Skew It On The Bar-B" to the Atlanta Hawks:

Why? Well first off, because it's just an awesome song, and the Hawks have been unreal so far this season. I mean, really. But to delve a bit deeper... What the hell does "Skew it on the bar-b" mean?

"Skew it on the bar-b we ain't tryin to lose." Is that like, a dance? A fighting strategy? Does it have any relationship to smashing the homies? This doesn't feel like other Outkast titles, where they're intentionally meaningless ("Spottieottiedoppaliscious," for instance). "Skew it on the Bar-B" seems like it's slang that I don't understand, and it all makes me feel distinctly white. What does it MEAN?!

The same could be asked of the Hawks this year. They're playing well, yes, but does it signify anything? Like, this could be a more-talented version of the Sacramento Kings. A nice storyline, but nothing earth-shattering. Or maybe they're contenders? The Magic seemed like a cute storyline all of last season, and suddenly we all looked up and they were in the NBA Finals. It's not that crazy to peg the Hawks for that type of progression, especially if Josh Smith continues to play like a world-beater.

But then, if the Hawks don't make that leap, and Joe Johnson leaves in free agency this summer, maybe this is the best the Hawks will look for the next decade. This is either the start of something really special in Atlanta, or the somewhat tragic peak of a dynasty that will never come to fruition. And right now, it's impossible to decipher one way or the other. Like "skew it on the bar-b." Are they talking about shish kabobs? DAMN YOU OUTKAST.

Till next week...

Iverson needs Philly and Philly needs AI

I figured the move would take away shots from Igudola. and Brand, but this may help them make a strong playoff push in the East if they can unite together!
