Roy Nelson Knocks Out Brendan Schaub To Become The Ultimate Fighter Winner

In the final fight of the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Roy Nelson caught Brendan Schaub with a right hand that knocked him out cold.

Throughout the first round Schaub was winning the punching exchanges using speed and a solid jab. At one point in the early part of the round Nelson was able to get a takedown and work to side control but Brendan was able to scramble back to his feet and avoid any significant damage or submission threats.

However in an exchange “Big Country” caught Schaub behind the ear, knocking him out. Nelson threw one more punch to the downed Schaub and the fight was over.

Roy Nelson wins season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter.

Matt Hamill Gets Taken Down, Pounded And Wins Disqualification Over Jon Jones

The only way to really explain this odd fight is from my live blog over at BloodyElbow.com:

Jon Jones v. Matt Hamill – Round 1- Front kick to the face misses for Jones. Leg kick for Hamill. Right hook lands for Jones as he tries to work from the outside and use his length. Leg kick by Hamill again. Hamill misses with a leg kick and eats a jab. Right hand by Jones. Leg kicks land for Jones and Hamill can’t get the single leg. Great leg kick by Jones, knee to the body and a great trip takedown. Jones quickly to mount and he is just pouring on ground and pound from the mount. Big elbows cut open Hamill. 12-to-6 elbows are thrown by Jones and the ref takes a point from Jones. Hamill is bleeding badly and he doesn’t want to fight any more. The fight is over. We’ll see if it is called a DQ, draw or TKO win for Jones. Matt Hamill wins by disqualification. The 12-to-6 elbow rule is stupid and Jones losing a disqualification is a shame. Hamill got a win for getting his face beaten off.

Kimbo Slice Wins Decision Over Houston Alexander

In a result that no one saw coming, Kimbo Slice and Houston Alexander went the full 15 minutes en route to Slice winning a unanimous decision. The first round featured almost nothing but Alexander circling and landing the occasional leg kick. Slice managed to get off no offense in the round while still somehow winning the round on one judge’s scorecard.

The second round featured Kimbo getting multiple takedowns, including a huge slam and getting mount multiple times. It was a great round for Slice, who was trying to prove himself against the best competition of his career.

The third featured more leg kicks from Alexander and a few punch exchanges which neither man truly controlled. At one point Kimbo managed a takedown but didn’t do anything with it and the fighters were stood up. Time ran out on the fight and the judges scorecards were announced. 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 all for Kimbo Slice who is now 1-0 in the UFC.

Frankie Edgar Submits Matt Veach In Second Round

Matt Veach suffered his first career loss at the hands of Frankie Edgar in the second fight of the main card of The Ultimate Fighter Finale. Veach came out strong, scoring with some big slams in the first round and even landing some solid punches standing. Late in the first it became clear that Matt was tiring and Frankie started to score with punches standing.

In the second round Veach was never able to get on track as Edgar was much too quick standing. A short right hand wobbled Veach’s legs and Frankie followed him to the ground, unleashing some brutal ground and pound. Finally, Matt had no choice but to give up his back allowing Edgar to sink in the rear naked choke for a submission victory.

Matt Mitrione Knocks Out Marcus Jones In Clash of Former NFL Players

In the main card opener Matt Mitrione took on Marcus Jones in a clash of former NFL players. While Jones won the first round on the SBNation.com card his ultra-amateurish striking skills were leaving holes for Mitrione. Jones managed multiple takedowns but was never able to secure a submission. The round ended with Jones on top looking for an armlock.

Quickly in the second round Mitrione was able to land a big right hand that put Jones out. A few more punches for emphasis and the ref had to jump in and save Marcus from any further punishment. The crowd had nothing but boos for the winner, who had filled a “bad guy” role on The Ultimate Fighter TV show.
