Throughout the first round Schaub was winning the punching exchanges using speed and a solid jab. At one point in the early part of the round Nelson was able to get a takedown and work to side control but Brendan was able to scramble back to his feet and avoid any significant damage or submission threats.
However in an exchange “Big Country” caught Schaub behind the ear, knocking him out. Nelson threw one more punch to the downed Schaub and the fight was over.

I am glad that Roy Nelson won. He was truly the outsider on team Rashad and it was good to see him succeed. Good thing that he believed in himself.

Roy reminds me of a laid-back redneck with a hidden agenda. He was so smooth and composed from the beginning of the the fight until it’s abrupt conclusion. The right-hand was just phenomenal as it crushed schuab to the canvas. This was a fight to be remembered. Roy Nelson shown that night and I liked what I saw…
