Though it's been rumored frequently over the past week, it is now being reported that All-Star third basemen Chone Figgins will be packing up and taking his services up the west coast to Seattle. The most recent report of Figgins' move is the first that includes numbers.
The Mariners and Figgins have reached a preliminary agreement on a $36 million, four-year contract pending a physical, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Friday night.
The contract for the former Los Angeles Angels sparkplug includes a vesting option for 2014 that could make the deal worth $45 million over five years.
[...]Figgins recently dropped his asking price to $36 million over four years, not too far from the $32 million the Mariners were offering intially, reports SI.com's Jon Heyman. Seattle also had offered $27 million over three years if Figgins preferred the slightly shorter option. The Angels were unable to match either offer, according to Heyman.
Figgins arrival in Seattle will, without a doubt, lead to the departure of Adrian Beltre whose success with the Dodgers never translated in Seattle or the American League.
