Pacers all-star forward Danny Granger will miss 4-6 weeks with a torn right plantar facia.
And the news officially gets worse for Pacers fans. Yahoo's Marc Spears, among others, is reporting that Granger will miss "a minimum" of 4-6 weeks with a torn right plantar fascia.
Granger is Indiana's best player, last year's Most Improved Player and likely a perennial all-star for the next 10 years ... and even with him, the Pacers had lost five in a row and are just 6-12 this season. Their coach, Jim O'Brien, is on the hot seat, and fans are frustrated. No time is a good time for Granger to get hurt, but now is particularly bad. I guess the silver lining is that surgery isn't required yet, but by the time Granger comes back, will it be too late to save Indiana's season?
It's sad what's happened to that once-proud basketball franchise since the Brawl at the Palace in 2004. Here's hoping things eventually turn around for them.
This is certainly not good news for Pacers fans. Via Indianapolis Star Pacers beat reporter Mike Wells.
Uhh ... yeah, that's certainly not a good sign. It's also coming at a really bad time for the Pacers, as their season goes flying off the tracks. Indiana is 6-12 and had lost five in a row prior to the Granger injury. Without Granger, things surely will get worse.
It's enough for SB Nation's Pacers blog Indy Cornrows to wonder whether changes should be in store. Whenever that phrase gets uttered in the middle of the season, it usually means a coaching change, and sure enough, that's exactly what Tom Lewis advocates if things don't get better. Not because firing Jim O'Brien changes much, but because that's literally the only option out there. Indiana has too many bad long-term contracts to fetch much value in a trade, and the players aren't going to all magically get significantly better in such a short period of time.
According to Pacers blog Eight Points, Nine Seconds, Pacers All-Star forward Danny Granger left the team's game against the Clippers after appearing to injure his heal. Granger walked off the court to the training room with a noticeable limp. Granger did not return, and the team he has a "bruised right heel".
There is no word yet how severe Granger's injury is, and how much time, if any, he is expected to miss. We'll keep you updated as new details emerge.
Is Danny Granger's Foot Injury Worse Than Reported?
Could Danny Granger be out for longer than 4-6 weeks with a torn right plantar facia? Injury expert Will Carroll, who has written for Baseball Prospectus and Football Outsiders, tweets that Granger could actually miss the entire rest of the season.
If so, that’s obviously a devastating loss for the Pacers and a terrible setback for Granger himself after he broke out and had an all-star campaign last year.
