Here's a rule of thumb: when the networks at home have to go to "super zoom" to tell whether a guy fumbled on a replay review, it should be rendered "too close to call."
Or, in ref-speak: "there was no indisputable evidence to overturn the call on the field."
That's the play in overtime that ultimately was overturned and ruled a fumble. And mind you, I'm not a Redskins fan. A D.C. native, yes, but could care less what happens to Dan Snyder's platoon of idiots. BUT THAT WAS PRETTY DAMN CLOSE. A little too close to overturn, maybe?
The Saints took over deep in the Redskins' territory after the refs determined the above photo was a fumble. From there, the Saints rolled, kicking a chipshot field goal a few plays later. Game over, Saints win. Still undefeated.
If that's what it looked like in super zoom -- more or less impossible to tell whether he fumbled -- how do you overturn it? The game was still phenomenally entertaining from start to finish, so I don't mean to complain. But the Skins' had a few different "booth reviews" go against them today, and while New Orleans certainly made the most of their fortune, it just feels like this one was little bit too perfect for New Orleans.
Conspiracy theorists, UNITE!

The Play should not have been reviewed.
The play was whistled dead before the saints picked up the ball. It should not have been handed to them.

The calls may have been
a little too perfect for the Saints. But if you have the technology (ie the SUPER MEGA ZOOM by Fox) why not use it? Sure…the game was a little too close to call, but I don’t think the Refs were as bad as Ed Hoculi last year.

Right...
The Saints were penalized 7 times for more than 100 yards… the Redskins twice for 15 yards. And Redskins fans are trying to say the refs gave the game to the Saints?
The screenshot here is from a slow-motion/freeze-frame shot that does not show the depth of the ball or the fact that the ball was loose before his arm hit the ground. A shot from a different angle clearly showed the ball coming loose.
