Fernandez Expected To Miss 4-6 Weeks After Surgery

Jason Quick of the Oregonian reports that Rudy Fernandez is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after having a microdiscectomy to fix a nerve root in his lower back that was causing pain in his right leg.

Trail Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez will miss four-to-six weeks after undergoing a microdiscectomy on Tuesday afternoon to relieve pressure from a nerve root in his back.

The prognosis targets his return in early to mid-January, meaning he will miss at least 17 games because of the injury.

Fernandez now joins teammates Greg Oden, Nicholas Batum and Travis Outlaw on the sidelines, at least for the near future.

Blazers Edge has a full wrapup of the news as well.

The Hits Keep Coming For Portland: Rudy Fernandez To Have Surgery

Reasonable people can debate whether Greg Oden is injury-prone or just remarkably unlucky.  His Trailblazers teammates?  Just unlucky.

The Blazers have already lost small forwards Nicholas Batum and Travis Outlaw for nearly the entire season with injuries.  Now, they might lose ace shooting guard Rudy Fernandez for a while, because Fernandez is apparently having surgery to fix some pain he's had in his right foot

Portland Trail Blazers guard/forward Rudy Fernandez will undergo a procedure today to alleviate pain in his right leg, General Manager Kevin Pritchard announced Tuesday.

Fernandez, 24, will undergo a microdiscectomy to relieve pressure from a nerve root in his lower back that is causing pain in his right leg.

Fernandez timetable is still unknown, but that does not sound like your run-of-the-mill NBA procedure.  We'll keep you posted when news comes in, but for now, all I can say is that this franchise is snake-bitten.  Something always prevents them from getting over the hump into championship contender status.
