I like to imagine this as some kind of grand, middle-age crisis drama. There’s the protagonist, whose wife just left him with nothing but the house and the huge tv that keeps him company with football and Telemundo soap operas. There are his childhood buddies who, dysfunctional as they are, keep his spirits up with their wild ways, endless 12 packs of Bud in a can, and their ability to show up to the party on a moment’s notice with guns and booze. They all wonder about life’s meaning, and then decide to celebrate by shooting his television and drinking the night away in the adorable small town they all know they’ll never leave.
I see Josh Brolin and Sandra Bullock in the leads, with Danny McBride and Billy Bob Thornton as his crazy but lovable friends. If you’re interested, my agent will let you have it for just over $100K. Call me, Hollywood.
(P.S. This is everything I want people to believe about the South. It’s like this all the time everywhere.)
