Nothing is official yet, but it looks like pitcher Rich Harden is close to signing with the Texas Rangers:
Free-agent right-hander Rich Harden is close to signing a one-year contract with the Rangers, according to a major-league source.
The deal, valued at $7.5 million according to published reports, qualifies as one of the biggest surprises of the winter meetings.
The Rangers traded Kevin Millwood earlier in the day Wednesday, freeing up a spot for Harden, if he does sign. According to Rosenthal, the Rangers will save $9 million by trading Millwood.
Harden has a career 3.39 ERA over a span of seven seasons playing with the Athletics and Cubs.
